PC FOR RECORDING

 

I get so fed up that everytime i mentioned to my " professional " musician friends that I'm using a PC for my studio they would laugh.

Well I used to work on a Mac when I was an architect. But I think a computer can only be as good as it's support. So with the growing amount of PC users, more money will be poured into the research and the development of software will get better because there is more profit. Also I want a computer that at least I can learn how to fix it when something goes wrong. With a close system like a Mac you need to go to a service centre and that's frustrating because they can charge you whatever they want. Well, time has proved that I'm right. PC music softwares can really rival with Mac nowadays. But still because of the open architecture of PC, you need to do a lot of adjustment of tweaking to make it run in a turbo mode for audio applications.

I won't claim to be an expert in this area but I have done a lot of research on the net and I can refer you to some references. I've tried them myself and they REALLY works for me.

I have here some favourite links where you can dowmload hundreds of free VST plugins. Not all of them are that useful but at times they can be creative and add that little unorthodox touch to your mix:

ASynth - A super great VSTi synth, fat sound and great GUI.

Cheese Machine - A cheesy retro string machine VSTi.

Ticky Clav - A retro Clavinet, funky VSTi.

Dual Delay - a useful delay from Big Tick.

EP Phazer - A 70s styled stereo phaser.

Audiofish - They have the BEST free plugins around. Very useable.

SIR - A convulation reverb based on emulation of real space. Has some latencey problem and can tax you computer. But if you can live with that, then you will be rewarded witj the best reverbs you can find.

Noisevault - If you downloaded SIR, this is the best place where you can find hundreds of impulses for used with SIR.

The Interrupter - They have some very oddball plugins with some very amazing GUIs.
