MY GUITARS 3

HOFNER 1960 JAZZ

Tis guitar was made in 1960 and I got it from Guitar George in Germany. This is the world's first hollow body jazz guitar with a built-in preamp. According to George, this guitar was purchased by a Hofner factory worker when it was first made in 1960 and he's put it away under the bed or something for 40 years. He recently died and his wife sold this guitar. When I got this guitar it was still in it's original plastic bag with all the accessories and the original Hofner paper bag!

It also came with the original 3V battery which is of course obsolete nowadays BUT, surprisingly it still work, despite the fact that it has already developed a layer of oxide on the bottom. These German really makes some great products besides BMWs.

This guitar is in new condition. The body is smaller than say, a ES-175. The body is only about 4 inchs or so deep. The neck feels comfortable and straight. The sound is not as deep as a big body jazz but I've always wanted to find a guitar of my age.

Beautiful details. Typical Hofner fingerboard markers. Absolute stylish.

GIBSON '76 LES PAUL DELUXE

This guitar was actually sold to me in a "kit" state. All the paint was stripped away- it was originally wine red colour. All the P/Us and pots taken down. I met this guy ...where I can't remember, came to me one day really hurry with this guitar and tried to sell it to me. He told me that he had a tumor in the brain and needed money. So I gave him more money than a guitar in this state really worthed. And he quickly sneaked away. Well, did he have a tumor? God knows. Come to think about it, I'm really suspicious about how he got it. But anyway, if he wanted a tumor in his brain so bad I think he'll get it someday.

Anyway I repainted this guitar with a blck top and natural mahogony back. Change the lead P/U to a Bill Lawrence, and the bridge to Schaller. Put in vintage styled Schaller machine heads and all chrome knobs. Also I installed a Chandler Tone-X which is kinda like an onboard wah control and you can dial in feedback easily. I like that Santana tone so bad.

The neck is all natural maple with a thin coat of lacquor. Plays great and sound awesome. So maybe I shouldn't be complaining. Afterall, he sold me a good guitar.
